System behavior for proposing start date and time for each material in a given time bucket (MD61)

Hi,

I have been involved in PP module support with special emphasis on PPDM.

I have a query regarding the MD61 (Creating PIR) and MD02 finally.

We setup PIR for a group of materials (A1, B1, C1) with Planning Horizon from 11th Oct to say 15th Oct 2021 and Period Indicator as D i.e. Day.

For date 11th Oct we have set Quantities 1000 each for Material A1, B1 and C1.

Material 11.10.2021

A1 1000

B1 1000

C1 1000

All three Materials have same Work Center assigned with 24 hours capacity.

In routing, for all materials we have set the Base as 1000 Units against 24 hours for each Material i.e. to produce 1000 units for Material A1, 24 hours required. It is same for other materials too.

Now what is expected if we run MD02 for the Product Group comprising of above 03 materials

Will it create 03 Planned Orders each for same date i.e. 11th Oct 2021? Why and on what basis

Will it create 03 Planned Orders on different dates i.e. 11th Oct 2021, 12th and 13th Oct keeping in view Work center capacity? Why and on what basis will it prioritize which Material to be produces on 11th then 12th and so on

Best Regards

Hi Faisal,

The goal of MRP is to determine the necessary materials, calculate quantities, determine when materials will be required to meet the production schedule. Capacity planning is a separate step (also in SAP).

By default MRP does backward scheduling for your planned orders. So if your requirement date is 12th of October, it will go back to determine order start date, based on your routing information. It will add GR processing time + In house production time + opening period from schedule margin key.

Capacity planning is executed after MRP (Lead Time Scheduling) in order to level the requirements with the available capacity planning. This can be done with the CM* transactions (see this tutorial). MRP + Capacity Planning are a very extensive subject, but SAP Help would be a good place to start exploring it.

Good luck!

Thanks for your feedback.

This mean it need to dive into Capacity Planning functionality to achieve the objective of distributing the Orders as per Work center capacities

Hello Faisal

I think this is the kind of scenario that you can test on your own system.

Please recreate the scenario and come back if you have questions about it.

Hi Caetano,

No doubt I would be creating the scenario but just wanted to get the idea of what is expected to happen.

Once I create the scenario modt probably todat then would come back with my queries.

Thanking in advance

Hello,

Well I have started with a simple scenario for just one material with Quantities of 40000, 50000 and 60000 for 11th, 12 and 13th Oct 2021 respectively in MD61.

I have attached the relevant screen shots for MM02 (MRP screen),MD61, MD04, CO02 and CR02 (capacity screen).

I just converted the first Planned Order of 11th Oct and 9.22am to Production Order against No. 7200242. The Start/End Dates comes up as 11.10.2021 9:22 upto 13 Oct 2021 01:22. As per routing 8000 Kg required 8 Hrs thus it looks fine.

I assume that now the whole Work center has been occupied for this duration and any next Planned Order dates should start after 13 Oct 2021 01:22 hours.

Now when I converted the 12th oct Planned Order its Start/End date are coming as 12.10.2021 00:00 upto 14.10.2021 02:00. How come 12th Oct taken into account since the Work Center was already booked for the first Production order.
