Set-up EDI connection - 2EL and 4A1

Hello,

The client wants to set up an EDI connection. We found 2 scope items that can do so, namely 2EL ( Integration of Sales with External Buyers )  and 4A1 (Automation of Order-to-Invoice with SAP Business Network ).  The difference is that scope item 4A1 uses SAP Business Network, while 2EL does not use this.

In the set-up guide of 2EL it is mentioned to create communication scenario SAP_COM_0223. However, in the set-up guide of 4A1 it is mentioned that 'This procedure describes how to deactivate the Sales with Buyers Integration (SAP_COM_0223) communication arrangement in order to set up the Sales with SAP Business Network Integration (SAP_COM_0848) communication arrangement instead.'.

However, some customers of the client have a connection to SAP Business Network, while other customers of the client do not have this. This result in the issue that we want both scope items to run. Is this possible? Or is it only possible to have 1 of the 2 scope items running at the same time?

Hello,

When dealing with both scope items 2EL and 4A1, it is indeed possible to configure both, but it requires careful consideration regarding the communication arrangements. Let’s delve into the specifics:

Scope Item 2EL

Scope Item 4A1

Can Both Scope Items Be Active?

Yes, it is possible to have both running simultaneously. You would set up SAP_COM_0223 for customers without SAP Business Network connections and SAP_COM_0848 for those with connections to SAP Business Network. However, you will need to manage business rules and configurations carefully to ensure that each customer’s transactions route through the correct communication scenario.

Considerations

  • Ensure distinct configurations: Differentiate the setups clearly to avoid conflicts.
  • Monitor integration flows: Regularly check both integrations to ensure data integrity and proper functionality.
  • Support Team Coordination: Engage with SAP support to resolve any integration issues timely.

Thus, while more complex, managing both setups is feasible and allows flexibility depending on your client’s customer needs.
