Hi All,
We have configurated serial number profile for which equipment’s creating back ground when
assigning serial numbers to material Through custom programme system assigning number ranges
from pre-configured number ranges, all these working fine, now but now client shared some legacy
files which having more than 10000 material with serial numbers and these serial numbers could be
conflict with all ready maintained number ranges, (may system will through error that serial number
already used) we need to upload this materials in system now so how we handle this situation.

Hi @rsk_gsk,
Thank you for sharing the details regarding the legacy serial numbers and the potential conflicts with the pre-configured number ranges. Here’s a suggested approach to handle this situation:
Data Analysis:
Perform a detailed analysis of the legacy serial numbers to identify any overlaps with the existing number ranges in the system.
Use a tool or script to compare the legacy serial numbers against the currently maintained number ranges.
Segregation of Serial Numbers:
Segregate the legacy serial numbers into two categories:
a. Non-conflicting Serial Numbers: These can be uploaded directly into the system.
b. Conflicting Serial Numbers: These overlap with the existing number ranges and require special handling.
Handling Conflicting Serial Numbers:
Option 1: Modify the conflicting serial numbers in the legacy data to fall outside the pre-configured number ranges. Ensure the modifications follow a logical pattern to maintain traceability.
Option 2: Temporarily expand or adjust the pre-configured number ranges to accommodate the legacy serial numbers, ensuring no duplication occurs.
Option 3: Create a separate number range specifically for legacy data to avoid conflicts with the existing system.
System Upload:
Once the conflicts are resolved, upload the legacy materials into the system.
Ensure proper testing in a development or sandbox environment before proceeding with the production upload.
Best regards,
ademt
