SAP Web IDE for HANA - Relevance in S/4 HANA object developments

Hi Experts, With the SAP HANA 2.0 SP 3 which is coming in Apr 2018, XS classic server is deprecated. Which means that, there will be no further updates to XS classic server and HANS studio or Eclipse based modeling. It is clear that, XS advanced with Web IDE for HANA is the way to go. All native HANA objects are migrated accordingly.

My question is that, is it going to be applicable for S/4 HANA systems also, I mean in the future release of S/4 HANA on the database 2.0 SP 03, all the ABAP CDS views, AM Database procedures are going to be created in HANA Studio? though it is deprecated ? or Web IDE for HANA will be used to do this job for S/4 HANA developments as well?

Please clarify me...So that, I can prepare for my learning road map accordingly.

Actually the XS Classic Engine was already set to deprecated with HANA 2.0 SPS02 🙂

If you are just implementing ABAP managed objects like AMDPs and ABAP CDS Views you can still use the same tooling, which means the ABAP Development Tools for Eclipse.

Of course if you plan to do S/4 HANA Extensions with HANA native development or via the CF runtime of SAP Cloudplatform, you should invest some time to make you familiar with the new concepts and the new tooling (e.g. Web IDE for HANA, WEB IDE Multicloud Edition).

Thanks Florian, yes you are correct, XS classic is already deprecated. ABAP development tools in eclipse/Studio is also deprecated, I think, all the prospective are going to be available in Web IDE for HANA going forward.

My question is, for CDS and AMDP, S/4 HANA 1804 version is going to come up with deprecated client tools like ADT in HANA studio? or should it be new Web IDE for HANA with ABAP Prospective?

Nope, ABAP Development Tools are not deprecated. You have to differentiate between HANA Studio and the ABAP Development Tools. ABAP Development Tools are a separated plugin which can be used with HANA Studio (to do ABAP development incl. AMDPs and ABAP CDS views), but of course (and I think this is the normal way most people uses the tools) ADT is used with a standard Eclipse installation.

Ok, I understand that. You are saying, Since HANA studio is deprecated, I can use the ABAP development tools in Eclipse(Neon or Oxygen). I will do that.

Finally, also what I understood from Client tooling prospective road map, Eclipse client is also going to be replaced with Web IDE for HANA, so it is going to be one platform development tool for all. is that correct? or Eclipse Client is going to continued for a while?

Again, for ABAP development incl. AMDPs and ABAP CDS Views nothing changes so far (at least for you as developer)

Sorry for the delay, Thank you for the confirmation. I am closing this thread, by concluding that, Web IDE for HANA is just a replacement to HANA studio, so with that all native Object developments will be done in here going forward. However, there is no plan to get ABAP tools prospective into Web IDE for HANA in future, in fact, ADT will be continued to use as Eclipse plug in.
