SAP S/4HANA Cloud Ex - user for Background Job - Does it consume license?

Dear Team,

My customer has a clarification on license consumption for Service user in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Extended that is needed for running background job.

they informed that in Onpremise ECC - this type of user did not consume any licenses

can you please clarify on this topic wrt S/4HANA Cloud Extended edition - how is a Background Job User counted wrt license consumption?

Hi Marise,

Based on the feedback we received from our license experts, only the user that sets up the job needs a license.

As long as the background job is just automating transactions within the application (like MRP run) no additional license is needed.

However if the background job is posting inbound transactions from a 3^rd party system, (like IDOCS) it needs to be licensed via Digital Access.
