SAP B1 UoM groups for Poles in different lenghts

Dear Experts,

Scenario:

• My client buys poles in different lengths: 4 feet, 8 feet, 16 feet, 25 feet.
• They use these poles in production. They can cut up the longer poles into shorter lengths required in manufacturing. They cannot put together shorter sections of poles when longer sections are needed.

So far it tested well, costing is working per 1 feet.

My question:

• Will this work in the Inventory reports? I have not yet seen a standard Inventory report that will split up the UoM to show this as separate lines.
• Will MRP know to cut a longer piece and not issue a PO.

Hi Marli,

in he past we had a customer with similar needs. At the end he used batches for the length e.g.

Item A 123 with 4 feet = Batchnumber: 123-4f

Item A 123 with 8 feet = Batchnumber 123-8f

So he was able to see what has been used and what is in stock
