Sales Order BOM - SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition

Hello SAP Experts,

I’m facing an issue with Order BOM explosion in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud. Here’s the scenario:

  • I have a material TG11.

  • A Material BOM for TG11 works fine — BOM explosion happens correctly in the sales order.

  • I created a specific Order BOM for a sales order using the Manage Order Bill of Material app with:

    • Usage: 5 – Sales and Distribution

    • Plant correctly maintained

    • BOM released and valid for the order date

  • I created a sales order with the item TG11, but the BOM explosion does not happen.

  • I ensured the item category is correct with the Product Master Data for TG11 which is ERLA and when it comes to sales order it is showing TAQ(Pric at header level).

  • I tried to edit the sales order but then couldn't delete the material since it was saying the item is order bill of material. Even if I try to add a new line item with the same material TG11 the BOM is not exploding.

Question:
What could be preventing the Order BOM from exploding in the sales order? Are there any additional configuration or steps required in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud to make a sales order BOM explode correctly?

Thank you in advance for your guidance!

Hi @Brinda911,

Thanks for the additional information.

For using the Sales BOM process (Sales Kit sales process in public cloud), the pre-reqisite is to active the Scope item 31Q in CBC.
Then create the BOM with useage 5 and use it in OR document type.

If still the issue in not solved, then provide more detail on the Item catgory group used and the business scenario(where is pricing and inventory is required) for further analysis.

Best Regards,
Surya.

@Suryaprakash13 I’ve already completed all the necessary configuration steps, but I’m still encountering an issue with the Order BOM, which isn’t reflecting correctly in the Sales Order. The item category group for the header (kit) material is set to ERLA, and the subcomponents are using NORM. In the Sales Order, the system determines item category TAQ for the header item, which is pricing at the header level while the components appear at the item level. The issue is that the specific Order BOM I created using the “Manage Order BOM – Version 2” Fiori app for the kit material TG11 does not explode when I create or edit the Sales Order. Additionally, I’m unable to delete the material since the system returns the message “Order item is a bill of material.” If you do have any insights let me know as to why the Order BOM functionality in the Manage Order BOM – Version 2 app isn’t working as expected in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, and whether there are additional steps or dependencies required for the BOM explosion to occur at the Sales Order level?

Dear @Brinda911 ,

Create the configuration profile in CU41 for the material "TG11" and in the configuration profile Goto --> profile detail --> Config Initial screen --> Configuration parameter

Select proces = Sales order (SET)

BOM application = SD01  and try to create the sales order.
Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,
Surya.

I’m working in the SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud environment, so I believe those T-codes may not be applicable here, but I’ll verify and confirm. Thanks for sharing!

I did try the approach you mentioned, but it directs me to the Variant Configuration setup — which, as far as I understand, isn’t required for the Specific Order BOM functionality. Variant Configuration is also quite limited in S/4HANA Public Cloud.

My main concern is understanding why the Specific Order BOM isn’t working — specifically, why the BOM isn’t exploding when editing the sales order. I’d like to confirm whether there are any additional configuration steps or prerequisites I might be missing. Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated in using SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition.
