S4 1610 Extend material lengh to 40 characters

Hi,

I was trying to configure the material master length from 18 to 40 in S4 1610,based on the suggested steps in note:

1.IMG-->Cross-application comp.-->General Application functions-->Field length extension-->active extended fields

2.Define material number format.

After above configuration, when I try to change the material number range ,it still only allow me to set up a number range for 18 characters.

Anyone can give me some tips? thanks..

Team, do you know if is mandatory in S4HANA to change to 40?? I prefer maintain 18char. of course we dont need 40

Indeed not mandatory. For now I think this is only valid to consider if you are using Manufacturing Part Numbers and the DIMP solution in your current system before moving to S4. 2453997 - S4/HANA: BMG142 The numeric material number is longer than 18 characters

• SAP standard behavior as it is documented in the note2267140and also in note2215424, pure numerical material number can only be 18 characters long.
• So it is SAP standard behavior that MMNR cannot set number range object to 40 characters long , there is no plan for change.

Problem fixed... Since pure numerical material number can only be 18 characters long, it is a standard sap behavior, so we have to follow this rule. Unless we use some alphanumeric material number .
