S/4HANA Public Cloud - How to extend Material Master to 20 digits?

Dear all,

I have received the following question from one of my partners: How to extend the material master to 20 digits, as the current limitation in S/4HANA Public Cloud is 18 digits? 

Some context: the affected customer is engaged with a public sector organization with a fixed naming convention of 20 digits regarding the material master. One of the key requirements is to keep the 20 digits. Are there any possibilities to extend the material master accordingly?

Hi Manuel,

This is not possible today.

However, there is a plan (Subject to change - https://influence.sap.com/sap/ino/#/idea/288512) to introduce this in future SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition releases (+2025).

The idea will be to provide this added functionality to extend the material master number to up to 40 characters similar to what was provided in S/4HANA on-premise.  The extension will also come with some of the same restrictions included in on-premise.
