The customer requested assistance to merge two plants into one ERP warehouse in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
The current setup includes two separate warehouses, each with its own plant, storage location, and ERP warehouse number.
The customer seeks clarification on the feasibility and impact of this structural change and whether it is possible to edit the mapping of plants/storage locations/ERP warehouses.
They also inquired about the differences between the following scenarios:
1. Two plants → two ERP warehouses → one WM warehouse.
2. Two plants → one ERP warehouse → one WM warehouse.

Warehouse Management Setup Guide.docx (Public)
Here’s the simple view of your SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Warehouse Management options. First, a quick glossary:
- Plant = the legal/organizational site (who owns the stock)
- Storage location = an inventory bucket inside a plant
- EWM warehouse = the physical warehouse run by Warehouse Management
Option 1: One plant, one warehouse (can have several storage locations)
- Setup: Plant 1010 has storage locations (e.g., Z05W, Z15W). Both are managed by the same EWM warehouse.
- When to use: You have one physical building serving one plant. You just separate stock logically (e.g., raw materials vs. finished goods).
Option 2: Several plants share the same physical warehouse
- Setup: Plant 1010 and Plant 2010 each have a storage location (Z05W, Z15W), but both point to the same EWM warehouse.
- When to use: One building is used by multiple plants/legal inventories, but operations are shared (same workers, equipment, layout).
Option 3: One plant uses several different warehouses
- Setup: Plant 1010 has two storage locations (Z05W, Z15W), each linked to its own EWM warehouse (two separate buildings/areas).
- When to use: You run multiple distinct warehouses for the same plant (e.g., a main DC and a spare-parts warehouse).
How to choose quickly
- One physical building?
- Stock for one plant → Option 1
- Stock for multiple plants → Option 2
- More than one physical building for the same plant → Option 3
Rules to remember
- A storage location belongs to one plant only.
- A storage location can be managed by only one EWM warehouse.
- One EWM warehouse can manage multiple storage locations (even from multiple plants).
Structural Changes
SAP Central Business Configuration (CBC) provides a dedicated management tool for your organization's structural alignment. The organizational structure management functionality is designed to streamline and enhance your company's configuration.

Dear Mr. Horlacher,
Thank you very much for your prompt response.
I am familiar with the options you outlined. Currently, our setup consists of two separate warehouses, each with its own plant, storage location, and ERP warehouse number, as shown below:
| 1010 | 1000 | 100 |
| 2010 | 2000 | 200 |
Our objective is to consolidate these into a single EWM warehouse. Typically, we achieve this by creating only one ERP warehouse for both plants and mapping it to a single EWM warehouse.
I understand that the structure cannot be changed once deployed. However, it is still possible to adjust the mapping on the EWM side to consolidate both ERP warehouses to the same EWM warehouse.
Current Mapping in EWM side:
| 100 | 1000 |
| 200 | 2000 |
Desired Mapping:
| 100 | 1000 |
| 200 | 1000 |
From the three options you described, it seems that mapping two ERP warehouses to a single EWM warehouse is not covered.
Therefore, my main question is whether it is possible to map two ERP warehouses to a single EWM warehouse, and what the consequences would be compared to using one ERP warehouse for both plants (Any process or posting is somehow affected?)
I guess there should be any difference between the two scenarios, I would like to understand the reasoning behind choosing one approach over the other.
1. Two plants → two ERP warehouses → one EWM warehouse.
2. Two plants → one ERP warehouse → one EWM warehouse.
Thank you in advance for your insights.
Best regards,
MDD
Dear Mr. Horlacher,
In the scenario of option 2, where multiple plants are assigned to a single warehouse, how can one proceed with the next step of the setup guide:
Define Default Values for Deliveries
Shouldn't this be separate entities for each plant assigned to said warehouse?
Kind regards,
Kasper
