Hello SAP Team,

Need your inputs for question on "Number Range Status" in T code: SNUM

(1) What is the use of Number Range status. I was thinking that is the last used number by system from the range, but when I check the number displayed in Number Range status, it does not show any results

(2) Can we say that based on Number range status, we can estimate how much series of numbers available for that number range? Example: 999 Numbers available (19999 - 19000)

Number RangeFrom NumberTo NumberNumber Range StatusAvailable Numbers
XX100001999919000999

(3) We have a situation where "Number Range Status" and "To Number", the difference is reducing each day, does it mean documents will not be posted, if the difference will be ZERO?

(4) What can the actions be taken based on scenario mentioned in (3)?

Thank you in advance for your response

Thank you.

1) The status is the last number assigned. I am not sure why you cannot find the document. It could be that you should double check what document type or company code the number range is assigned to.

2. Yes. the configuration for the number range object in SNUM defaults to providing an alert when 10% remains.

3. Correct, SAP will block creation of any further documents using that number range. This this will be a production down situation if you run out of numbers.

4. The solution depends on the number range object. For RF_BELEG (FI Document Number), you can restart the numbers each year. For others, you'll need to estimate the number of documents for each document type and plan accordingly. It may be that you have room to simply increase the "TO" number in the range. In other cases, you may need to plan for a new, larger number range to be assigned to the document type.  For our Finance number ranges, we have a master list documented outside the system and controlled by a single Finance IT team to avoid conflicts.

For any doc type, you theoretically can archive documents to free up numbers; but, I think it would be rare that you'd free up a large block of sequential numbers. If the same doc number exists when trying to post, the system will fail.

Hello,

1) What is the use of Number Range status - It explains that number document has created for specific area where number range assigned.  In you example document number until 19000 has created.

2) Yes, based on this number you can consider how much is left number range. It's better to have alert set up to ensure how much number left by scheduling the job with the program. Example if 10% left number left, this job will send notification email.

3)To Number - Represent that's the highest number it can go after that system will not allow to create document for that defined number range. It's always better to update when we get closer to number.

This creates serious issue in system and document creation will fails.

4) If available is reached, you need to set up new range in SNRO, example

Existing range

1000019999

New range

2000029999

There plenty number of blogs/SAP help document how to set up new range.

Thanks,

Pramod
