Quality inspection for 3PL location

Hi Experts,

We have requirement where material received in 3PL location (SLOC=XYZ) and sent to quality department for inspection. The quality department is managed within plant and having separate Storage location (SLOC=ABC). The distance between these two locations are far away e.g. 50 KM. The goods receipt happened in 3PL location (SLOC=XYZ) and material sent to quality department for inspection (SLOC=ABC). Quality department want to know when the material sent from XYZ to ABC for inspection also when inspection completed the materials returned back to 3PL location (SLOC=XYZ). There is no interface between 3PL to Quality location, both this locations managed as separate storage location within plant.

Need your inputs for both the senarios,

1. Sample sent from 3PL to Quality and return back.

2. Whole lot sent from 3PL to Quality and return back.

When whole lot is sent is sent from 3PL (XYZ) to Quality (ABC):

Two options:

One: If the materials is received from vendor into 3PL, create the 01 inspection lot on arrival. When the material is ready to move to storage location ABC transfer the inspection lot to from XYZ to ABC using transaction QAC2, The lot and stock will now show in ABC. Lab uses storage location ABC as a search value in QA32/33 and other work lists.

If only a sample portion is being sent, post the portion not being sent to store location XYZ first. Then transfer the inspection lot to ABC.

When UD is made the lab posts the material out to storage location XYZ in the UD stock posting screen. If the sample is destroyed in testing, they simply post that out to sample usage on the UD screen.

Two: If no lot is created upon GR, use MIGO to move the stock from storage location XYX to ABC using material movement 311. Have the 08 inspection type activated in the material master. An inspection lot will automatically be created for the material in SLOC ABC. The lab posts the stock out to XYZ store location at UD. This would work for any qty of material, sample or full lot. At UD any material not used for sample, is posted back to SLOC XYZ.

Be aware that none of this will provide any shipping documents for going over the road. But since you have this process in place, I imagine you already have a process for that.

Appearance of the inspection lots in the respective SLOC's allow you to see what should be in or on the way to the lab.

Several options I can think of off hand.

- create user status on the inspection lot to track the sample locations.

- use physical sample functionality and track via the physical sample(s).

- Create a couple of operations on the inspection lot. Each operation is for the different sample locations. I.e. operation 0010, 3PL - Add MIC "Samples Sent" P/F. Operation 0020 Plant - Add MIC "Samples Rec'd". You add as many workcenters, (for security), and operations as you need to track the sample.

Thanks for your inputs.

But we need to monitor when the part is received in 3PL, When it sent to QA for inspection in plant warehouse, When it returned back to 3PL after inspection.
