You have not mentioned your versions but by using AI4ERP, here are some general steps to review.  Please advise if you need more help:

To configure automatic encoding of Project IDs based on project type or Project Profile in SAP S/4HANA, you generally need to follow these steps in the system's configuration settings. This is a high-level overview and may require administrative access in SAP and consultation of detailed documentation or assistance from an SAP consultant:

.Access SAP Customizing Implementation Guide (IMG): - Navigate to the SAP IMG by entering the transaction code `SPRO` in the command field. - Click on "SAP Reference IMG" to open the customization options.

.Define Project Types: - Navigate to `Project System` > `Structures` > `Operate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)` > `Define Project Types`. - Here you can define different project types which can be later used to categorize projects.

.Define Number Ranges for Project IDs: - In the same area, you can specify number ranges for different project types. - Navigate to `Project System`, and under `Structures`, you select `Number Ranges for WBS Elements`. - Define number ranges specific to each project type, ensuring each has a unique range.

.Configure Project Profiles: - Navigate back to `Project System` > `Structures` > `Operate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)` > `Define Project Profiles`. - Each profile can be linked with a project type to ensure correct settings.

.Assign Number Ranges to Project Profiles: - Within the same customizing path, assign these number ranges to different project profiles, linking them to the project types.

.Set Up Automatic Number Assignment: - Under `Project System`, configure the settings for automatic number assignment. - Ensure the system settings allow for automatic assignment and that the logic links the correct number ranges with project types or profiles.

.Assignment of Project IDs Based on Profile or Type: - Once project types, profiles, and number ranges are defined and linked, the system should automatically generate Project IDs based on the associated type or profile when a new project is created.

.Testing: - Before rolling out, thoroughly test these configurations in a development or quality assurance environment to ensure accuracy and functionality.

.Implementation and Training: - Implement the changes in the production environment (if applicable) and ensure users are trained on the new process. Please note: This is a broad outline and the steps might vary slightly based on your specific version of SAP S/4HANA and any customizations your organization has.
