The IDoc (e.g., MBGMCR or MBCREATE) carries the original RSPOS from the reservation. This reflects the component item number as maintained in the production order via RESB.

During goods movement posting, SAP may renumber or reassign RSPOS in the material document due to:

  • Partial goods issues
  • Multiple components with same material
  • Backflush logic
  • Batch splits or serial number handling

The system sometimes reuses or reassigns item numbers to optimize document structure, especially if multiple movements are merged.

Check the following

  • Go to RESB Table and confirm the original reservation item number for the component.
  • Go to MKPF/MSEG and check how the item is posted in the material document.
  • Go to CO03 and see if multiple components share the same material or have batch splits.
  • Some movement types like 261 may trigger internal renumbering.
