Process order number range skipping from 40010 to 40020 and after few orders again its taking 40013

Hi

We have a buffer on process order number ranges as it is recommended by default. But while creating orders , for e.g it created 40010 then it would take 40020 but after few orders it again goes back and takes 40013. We want to avoid this but also do not want to impact the performance of the system considering the number of users.

please recommend a solution!
