Possibility to tracks stocks for MPN materials, without using batch management?

Hi,

Looking through relevant SAP literature, I tried to find out is it possible to tracks stocks for MPN materials without using batch management? The closest I have found was this part: "The MPN material master records are assigned to your firm’s own material. Stocks are managed with respect to the firm’s own material." on this link

Does this means that each material which is under material type category "HERS" (Manufacturer parts) can't and shouldn't have any stocks? I guess that is only possible if we have activated batch management in material master data to the firm’s own material. Then, each batch number would be related for particular vendor and/or manufacturer, and then I could track stock for each one.

My final question: is is possible to tracks stocks for MPN materials using standard MM reports (like MB52), without using batch management?

The answer is HERS "Manufacturer Part" materials is not meant to manage stocks. Just look at the SAP standard configuration of HERS material type - SPRO: Logistics - General -> Material Master -> Basic Settings -> Material Types -> Define Attributes of Material Types:

Quantity and value update of stock is off here.

Stocks are managed under company's own material numbers. As many HERS materials can point to a single company's own material it's not possible to trace company's own stock to manufacturer material number unless you use batch management.

MPN is more of a purchasing functionality than inventory management.

Thanks for clarification.

I would like to know how can I incorporate MPN in MBOM, as BOM is created with Main Material and not with MPN material.

I have this requirement because some Customers want that in their product , the component used is only from specific MPN and not all qualified by our organization.
