Parts interchangeability in MRP on S4 HANA

Hello Experts,

I have an requirement form client that for alternate material maintain in BOM system should check stock availability of all materials as per priority when MRP run is carried out. So basically if 3 materials are alternate for each other then if the requirement quantity is not fully satisfied with all the stock of all these three materials then only requirement should be created for first priority material.

I have search numerous threads regarding the solution of the same and found that it is possible with MRP sets/MPN logic. But i don't get full documentation of the same to test in my system.

We are using SAP S4 HANA 1809

Please help me with this.

Yes, your requirement can be met with parts interchangeability and this is available in S/4HANA.

I have created my own parts interchangeability examples based on the SAP Help information and it is not very complex at all.

You need to create your FFFC material in MM01 and then create your MPN-MRP set in PIC01. Check this link for details:

Thanks a lot for your response.

Every time i prefer to go with standard functionality as suggested by SAP and actually its help a lot to business as well rather than going for any custom solution.

Actually i have gone through above link that you have provided but i am get little confuse for configuration part that to be needed for this and also step by step procedure to follow to achieve the same. I actually don't know from which part i need to start for the above process.

I also i have one doubt- is it work for discrete manufacturing?

Hi Kunal

It works with discrete industry and, from an MRP perspective, also works with process industry.
You can start with the steps mentioned in my previous reply.

Hi Caetano,

I did some research and it seems like most DIMP functionality (but not all) is included in S/4 HANA (without having to activate the IS for DIMP).

That therefore implies that Parts Interchangeability should be available as standard functionality in S/4 HANA.

Am I correct in saying that to be able to make use of Parts Interchangeability the business function for DIMP must be activated - even in S/4 HANA?
