Dear Team,
In our Steel Industry client, they follow "Make to Order" where they get orders of same product but with variance in grades, size, Outer Diameter etc. (Many Parameters)
They want to select those Parameters when creating sales order in system and the same should flow to Production order.
So, we have to maintain many parameters for Material which is not possible in Material Master fields.
Q1. Do we need to create new material when there is variance in those parameters? (Material master will be too high)
Q2. Is it possible to classify those parameters by having one material? (To minimize creating new material every time)
Q3. What would be importance of Classification view?
Kindly provide possible suggestions.
Thanks,
Sabarinathan K

Hello Sabarinathan,
You can implement Variant configuration in order to achieve all of your goals, where these characteristics can be entered in Sales Order and get copied to Production order automatically with the corresponding components.
as for your questions:
Q1) instead of creating a new material, you can work with the material variant concept.
Q2) with variant configuration yes you can, one material with all possible configuration.
Q3) classification view is mandatory in variant configuration to assign class 300 to each configurable material
Also I would suggest to take a look on SAP MILL Products Solution https://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_07/helpdata/en/60/cfc353b677b44ce10000000a174cb4/frameset.htm , it would be a great add value for your steel industry implementation.

Hello Abdelrahman ElDokmeiry abdelrahman_eldokmeiry
Thanks for your suggestion.
We are planning to follow Batch classification for mapping these parameters
Steps: Creating batch class 023, Creating Characteristics for each parameters, assigning characteristics to the class. Then, we will create batch for each order based on the customer requirements by giving inputs to all these characteristics.
1. What would be your suggestion on this?
2. Will this flow get copied to Production Order from Sales order?
3. Can we fulfill by Batch Classification instead of going to Variant Config.?
Kindly revert.
Thanks,
