Number range extension in production system

Hello experts

Our existing number range for material document is 4000000000-4010000000.We still have another week of numbers to be consumed.

We want to extend the number range so the new number range will look like 4000000000-4020000000, basically I will be increasing the To number. I want to know what is the best practice in making this change directly in production. The documents are created non stop in production so we don't have any quiet times in the system.

As this is an extension rather than a new number range assignment, will there be any issue? for example documents fail to create or any short dumps if we make the change while the documents are being created?

Any advise or link to any SAP guidance on this will be highly appreciated.

There will be no impact if you are increasing the number ranges, but better to do it beforehand.
