No warning if start-start relationship does not take full effect

Hello all.

This question refers to a use-case in which top-down scheduling is used.

We have two WBS elements (A and B) with their own networks with a network activity (1 and 2) assigned to the respective WBS element. A&1 and B&2.

A start-start relationship is set between network activity 2 and network activity 1 with the intention that the latest start date in 2 should be reflected in 1.

The above works fine with exception of if the latest start date in NWA 2 does not fit into the basic dates of the A WBS element.

If a warning message would then show things would be OK but that is not the case. Instead - an update is done but limited to the basic dates of WBS A.

Should it be like this? Is there a way of influencing this?

If not – it is easy to miss that the start-start relationship has not taken full effect.

Regards/ Anders

Hi Ken.

Thanks for feed-back. I did not get the comment about the network activities though.

Maybe a side-step from the question at hand but good to verify the scheduling approach. I will try to elaborate a bit more in what follows.

Below is the top-down scheduling part of the field help (F1) for the project definition "Scheduling Scenario" field where we have "Top-down scenario (pre-defined)" selected.
"
...

The scheduling dates are defined by top hierarchy elements, that is the project definition or the WBS elements, and limit the dates of the activities. The dates of the activities must lie within the basic dates of the WBS elements to which the activities are assigned. Similarly the basic dates of a WBS element must be within the basic dates of its superior WBS element.
...
"

In this context the intention is to assign a network with activities per WBS element and use forward scheduling with the start date given from the basic start date of the WBS element which will be manually set via CJ21.

If the scheduled dates of the network strays outside of the WBS - a warning message is received with the current settings.

Can it not be used also in this way?
