Hi,

I am new to MM. Need some guidelines and suggestions on this in terms of configuration and way of approach

Currently there is a plant XYZ which will be closing soon and we need to create a new plant to replace it.The new plant will be in the same province and possibly in the same city as the XYZ plant and we expect the same functionality as XYZ.Simply to say we are creating plant XYZ clone. And extend the functionality of MM,PP,FI and SD for the new plant. This would be 100% copy of an existing plant and functionality. There wont be any changes on Org Structure as the XYZ plant is assigned two purchasing organization

Hi Balu,

Welcome to SAP MM.

------what kind of support we need from other module consultants and in what way.

After creation of new plant. You will be needing MM,PP,FI and SD modules to check all their module specific business flows related to your new plant.

------What will be the major pain areas if any.

Pain areas will be if any customization or any table entry is missing then all your consulatants will face issues while running their flows, which they have to rectify while executing the flows.

-------What steps to be followed while creating the replica of XYZ plant in terms of configuration

SPRO-Enterprise Structure-Definition-Logistics - General-Define, copy, delete, check plant-Copy, delete, check plant.

Hope this helps you

Please note that if you use the utility to copy the plant, the shipping point assignments are copied from the existing plant. If you use the copy, you have to undo the settings in reverse order:

- remove picking location determination

- remove shipping point determination

- remove shipping point assignment

Then add your new shipping point(s) and make the new setting in the normal way.

Hi,

I believe that you are now having a running system with all organisation units but only a plant XYZ need to be closing soon for an organisation reasons.

Now you can follow the minimum steps for new plant creation

1. Create a new plant ( copy from standard plant) & then create storage location for new plant

2.Assigning new plant to company code and then assignment of purchasing organization to plant.

3.Vital steps:-Need to active your valuation area(new plant) in OMWD t.code with valuation grouping code.

4.Maintain MRP Controller/Controllers

5.Assign sales organization, – distribution channel – & new plant

6.Active quantity & value updation for new plant for all material types

7.Use LSMW or BDC with MMZ1 t.code for material ( old material or used material) uploading to new plant.

8.All info record need to be created with LSMW

9.Creation of any valuation types & MRP data

10.For new plant Excise Reg. number need to be assigned in Maintaining Plant Settings(

SPRO ->> Logistics general ->> tax on Goods Movements->>India ->>Basic setting ->> Maintain Plant Settings)

You can copy and create new plant by

SPRO- >Enterprise Structure->Definition-Logistics -> General-Define, copy, delete, check plant->Copy, delete, check plant.

It has impact on mainly on FI,PP,SD and if plant is relevant to PM and QM also.

What is nature of existing plant , is it a production unit or what.?

Mainly.

After copying the plant there are multiple things to do. This is very important as genreally Plant as Valuation area. One need to do various activity.Few Important things I ma mentioning , but one need to check based on requirement.

1.Sloc Creation for Plant

2. Purchasing Organisation

3.Assignment of Plant to Company Code

4. Assignment Pur. Org. to Co Cd

5.Assignment Pur. Org. to Plant

6.Define Attributes of material Type (Logistics General ---> Material Master -> Basic Settings-> Material Types ---> Define Attributes of Material Types )

7.Carrying Out Overall Maintenance of Plant Parameters

8. Automatic Account determination.

First understand clearly the requirement siimulate it in quality.

Hi Sudhansu,

Thanks for your inputs. It is a small DC with MM configuratoin the Plant is about to be closed so we need to replicate that configuration in one of the company code. This will be 100% coopy of an existing plant and functionality. We need to have the plant code configured for the DC.What kind of support we might need from other module consultants for this task.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Balu,

I believe DC means Distribution center, contact SD consultant and FI consultant to finish the job.

Hi,

Since you are creating DC as plant

The business processes in DC will include Inbound and Outbound deliveries, stock transport orders and transfers

Once you copy create a plant

On the SD side you need to create Sales orgnization , distribusion channel and division for materials being handeled in DC

thease things will be required for creating deliveries

You need to set up shipping points for plant

On the Inbound side you need to configure Goods receipt process for outbound deliveries , if you are doing trnasfers between your plants you need to set up STO process

If you are not going to use Warehouse Management in DC then your trnasfers will be handled through Inventory management

Hope this will help you to identify what you are looking for

Thanks

Hi Balu

Business Requirement Document will give us all the requirement for creating the new plant....when creating new plant, plant data's will be differed according to client requirement...so you please get all information from client and according to that create a new plant

For Example: Business Requirement Document contains

Company code, Purchasing Organisation, storage location, Jurisdiction code, Factory calender, GL account and from SD get sales organization, Distribution channel like that
