We are setting up a new warehouse and during the discussion, the business wants that the Storage Type to be not Default Storage Type (Template).

We are done in setting the Storage Type and we have assigned the Template to be Default Storage Type.

Need help on how to change the Template of this Storage Type currently being setup.

Dear Community,

You can't create or change storage types with the default storage type template. This template is used by SAP Best Practices to create storage types that are needed for certain warehouse processes, such as:

  • Goods receipt
  • Goods issue
  • Clarification
  • Scrapping
  • Production supply

However, you can create a new storage type (with a different name) with the settings you require. You can select the storage type you desired changing to other than the "Default Storage Type" template (that is your situation), for example. You create storage types using templates in the configuration activity 102519-Create Storage Types Using Templates.

Thank you for your concern!

Best regards,

SAP Support

Dear SAP Community,

Just to complement the answer. In case you would like to change the storage type settings, please check below some other rules.

You can change the following settings (whether the storage type was created using a template or not):

  • Storage type description
  • Stock removal rule and putaway rule
  • Storage type role
  • Whether to store a mixture of different handling units (HUs) and unpacked stock in bins
  • Whether HUs are allowed in the storage type
  • Whether to mix expiration dates or goods receipt dates when adding products to bins or HUs
  • What the system does during the confirmation of a stock removal of a full HU or the remaining quantity in an HU

After creating a storage type, there are some settings you can't change, for example:

  • Storage behavior
  • Whether HUs are required or even allowed in a storage type
  • Whether available quantities are at the storage bin level or the highest HU level
  • Whether available quantities are saved for each batch or with no batch reference

Similarly, there are some settings that you can only make restricted changes, for example:

  • Storage type role
  • Whether to allow mixed storage in bins
  • Whether to allow mixed storage in HUs
  • Whether the system updates capacity data and the empty status of storage bins

You create storage types using templates in the configuration activity Create Storage Types Using Templates. as commented in the SAP Support reply.

Best regards,

Geovana
