Need different posting time based on geographical location on single SAP (SAP Hana 1809) instance

Dear Group members,

We have a typical scenario where we have a single SAP instance (Sap Hana 1809) with 3 different Company codes. These companies are operating in 3 different geographical locations and different time zones. Now we want to setup the transaction time and date according to 3 different zones as follows so that any transaction entry being generated in SAP should have date and time recorded as per relevant time zones.

  • 1.Company Code A: India timing
  • 2.Company Code B: US Timing
  • 3.Company Code C: Singapore timing.

We would like to check if someone having a similar condition and have implemented some solution? Would love to have guidance on this.

Dear Sanil.

Thanks for your response. From a financial perspective you are correct that since transactions are recorded in the same financial year it does not matter at what time it is recorded but if you visualize from the end customer angle it is creating a false scenario especially in US and UK as India is 9 hours and 30 minutes ahead of them.

For Example:

If a Customer is buying in US on 13th April 2021 in US at 5:30 PM (US Time), the invoice provided to him/her actually has a Date as 14th April 2021 since the Indian server date has been changed. Similarly if a person is booking a Purchase Order on us from his system on 13th evening, the Order booked in our system shows booking date as 14th and hence this is creating few operational issues and in few cases people are taking it in a different manner and the brand image is getting impacted.

Further, this scenario is also creating issues on the Financial year end on 31st March.

This is the reason, we are looking for a proper solution.

Hi gdbhatnagar

You mentioned you have three legal entities and they reside in the same system. This would mean that they are probably group entities and could have potentially I/C transactions as well which means that an user in US may record a transaction in a legal entity in India or Singapore and vice versa. So the requirement of recording transaction time based on time zone does not really fit in.

I have seen lot of customers who have such complexities with users spread across the globe. In any way, the transactions are recorded in the right financial periods, which is required for legal reporting externally. Do you know the business rationle for such a requirement?

Thanks & Regards
