We have a unique situation which our company has grouped our task lists for over 200 HVAC units in our facility by type unit whether belt driven or direct drive for the PM's The issue is we would like to automatically order parts for each PM but not generate a separate work order. My understanding is that parts have to be reserved on a task list. I have looked to see if both a general task list and an equipment task list can be added to a maintenance item or maintenance plan with out generating another work order just for parts, but could not find any clear information on that. The reason our client has group the task lists is for quality and compliance issue, so if inspection criteria changes, they would just have to change two task lists, instead of going to all 200 task lists. Currently all the task lists attached to our HVAC unit PM's are general task lists. If I add parts to the task list as it is now, they will be the same parts ordered on all the Maintenance plans, which I do not want because each HVAC has different parts. I know of no way to add parts to automatically order on a Maintenance plan. Again I do not want the system to generate a separate work order. Thanks for any help in advance.
I was thinking of adding an equipment task list to the maintenance item or Maintenance plan for each and assigning the parts, but thought a separate work order would be generated for parts only

Brian,
Have you looked at heirarchical task lists?
