MRP MD01N: Inconsistent Component PR Creation and Stock Consideration Behavior with/without Subcon.

Dear team,

Issue Summary:
When executing MRP Live (MD01N), the system shows inconsistent behavior for component purchase requisition (PR) creation and stock consideration depending on whether Subcontracting MRP Area configuration is active.

Prerequisite Configuration Setup:

• MRP Area type (MDLV-BERTY) = 02 – Storage Location is configured.

Prerequisite Master Data Setup:

• Component material Issuing Storage Location (STPO-LGORT) is maintained in the Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Corresponding Storage Location type MRP Area is assigned in the component material master MRP1 view (MDMA)

Requirements summary:

Requirement#	Description
1	Component PR to be created at BU level MRP Area - When the component material Issuing storage location (STPO-LGORT) is set in the Bill of Materials (BOM), the component purchase requisition (PR) should be created at the BU level MRP area of Component material Issuing storage location (STPO-LGORT).
2	Component Stock of BU level MRP Area should be considered - When the component material Issuing storage location (STPO-LGORT) is set in the Bill of Materials (BOM), the component stock of storage location of respective BU level MRP area should be considered, and system should not consider neighbor BU level MRP area stock.
3	Component Stock at subcon Vendor Location should be considered during planning run – Unnecessary PR should not be created if sufficient component stock is available at Subcon Vendor location

Observed Behavior:

Expected Behavior:
The MD01N should:

• Create PRs in the storage location type MRP area of issuing storage location (STPO-LGORT)
• Consider stock from the same MRP area.
• Consider stock from the subcontracting vendor location.

Preference:

1. Preferred Option: Meet all three requirements without activating subcontracting MRP area configuration.
2. Alternative Option: Meet all three requirements with subcontracting MRP area configuration active.

Business Impact:

• Unnecessary PRs are generated even though there is enough stock in subcontracting vendor’s storage location.
• Available component stock at the vendor location, Storage location level MRP area is not effectively utilized.
• leads to excess procurement, higher inventory, and inaccurate MRP planning results.

Questions to SCN.

• Is there any SAP standard configuration or master data setting available to meet all three requirements simultaneously?
• Could you please confirm whether there is any SAP Note available to achieve this behavior?
