Based on your post, the specific issue is movement type 641 (used for stock transfer to subcontractor) is valuated but does not require a storage location. When posted without LGORT (storage location), it updates valuated stock at the plant level. It does NOT update storage location or batch stock, hence MB5B storage location view misses it.

The recommended actions would be

  • Use SE16N or MB51 to list all 641 documents for material LNG in plant 1200. Check if LGORT is blank in MSEG.
  • Review the subcontracting PO setup and ensure storage location is defaulted or manually entered. Consider a validation or enhancement to prevent 641 postings without LGORT. For that, you can explore BAdI MB_DOCUMENT_BADI or enhancement MBCF0002.
  • For plant 1200, reconcile MB5B valuated stock with storage location stock by extracting 641 documents without LGORT. Manually adjusting or reporting the delta.

Please note the main difference between Storage Location stock and Valuated Stock in MB5B is because

in storage location stock, it shows physical stock at a specific storage location. Includes all movement types, whether valuated or not. Examples: 101 (GR), 311 (stock transfer), 309 (transfer posting), etc. May include non-valuated stock like consignment, returns, or subcontracting stock. Useful for logistics and warehouse visibility.

the Valuated Stock shows stock with financial value in the general ledger. Includes only valuated movement types like 101, 102, 601, 602 (GR/GI with value). Excludes non-valuated movements (e.g., 311, 309 if no value is posted). Used for financial and inventory valuation purposes.

Some movements affect quantity but not value. MB5B with valuated stock ignores these. Stocks like consignment or subcontracting may appear in storage location view but not in valuated stock. UNBW (non-valuated materials) will show in storage location but not in valuated stock.

Thank you for your response. This issue is with the different opening and closing balances between the valuated stock and storage location/batch for the same material and plant. I checked some other plants like 1000.. and the opening and closing balances are same. Even the total receipt and issue are different (which is fine). T MB5B Valuated Stock Valuation Area: 1200 Material: LNG Description: LNG Item Quantity (TO) Stock/Value on 01.01.2025 506.836 Total/Value of Receipts 1,072.420 Total/Value of Issues -763.833 Stock/Value on 31.01.2025 815.423 Plant 1200 Kaduna Material LNG Description LNG Stock on 01.01.2025 27.596 TO Total Receipts 1,160.640 TO Total Issues 696.993- TO Stock on 31.01.2025 491.243 TO The plant I reviewed all transactions within the same period, I found that 52 document numbers in the Valuated Stock report (movement type 641, without storage location) are not reflected in the Storage Location/Batch stock.
