Hi all,
Can any one please let me know, whether it is possible to maintain same material number under two material types at any organizational level. In my scenario, the user treats same material as finished and raw material in two different co-codes. How to map this scenario with out any problems in the valuation.
thanks & regards
Chaitanya
thank you

Hi,
You cant use the material code for two material types as it is unique.
Instead you can create the same material code at two separate storage loc. i.e. one at ROH sto. loc. & one as FERT sto. loc.

Hi Chaitanya,
I saw all the post above but i have some R&D idea about this do one thing prepare one Zmaterial type with account cat ref. 0009 or whatever u r using in the FERT or HALB go to MM01 provide external no. range to this and paste your material code but be careful for account posting scenario and procure new material i think system might not allow you for same plant but first try do this in development and then use this in production might possible the system cannot able to calculate the acoount postings in one plant but if u maintain this in two different plants as the valuation area is plant it might allow you...
see if possible please post the result's or Error you found.

Hi Chaitanya,
I have checked this in
As I understood your comments, you would like to create two material
master with same material number and different material type. But I
am afraid that the standard system design will not allow such
functionality.I have confirm this in our internal SAP system as well.
If we type in (MM01) a different material type as the actual, for
a material which already exists, the system answeres with an information
that the material type (the type you used before) is copied from the
master record of the material.[ Message M3310]
I hope this information helps

Hello
it is not possible to maintain the same material number as finished and raw material.
All you can do is either go for different codes and do material to material transfer (movement type 309) at the time of sales.
Or you can trat that material as semi finished material (type HALB).Then also a single material code can behave both as fisnihed and raw material.
