We have a requirement where I want to set a material (which will be part of a BOM as a component) to be relevant for planning but not for production or costing.
Please suggest.

Let me explain the business scenario...
There are few set of materials for which inventory is managed by vendor and we neither want to cost these materials nor want to consume these materials during confirmation but we want to plan them as a part of MRP run because we provide forecast to our vendors.
Thanks,
Gaurav

If you have certain materials which you want, not only not to cost, but in this case also not to manage in stock with value, then you can define them as material type "non valuated".
Regarding consumption and stock management, I'm affraid that MRP will not plan correctly if there's no consumption, and you can plan in MRP only stock managed materials.

Dear,
goto material master MM02, Costing 1 tab. There you can find "DO NOT COST". Check it. If you will set it in the bom then it will not be costed only for that Order which consists that BOM.

Hi,
Both suggestions are good; I was just wondering regarding the business case. Could you give an example?

Hi,
Go to BOM compoenent status/language view and do not maintain relevency for porduction / costing.

Dear Mehra,
1.You can set the indicator Do not cost for the particular material in the costing 1 view of the material master if that material
should not be considered for costing.
2.In case if it's a bulk material then by setting the bulk materail indicator at BOM level will remove the costing relevancy but it
does not remove the production relevancy indicator.
Now check with this and come back with your further queries.
