We are snack manufacturer based in NJ and we are implementing S4 from scratch, moving on from Infor M3. We are currently stuck developing our manufacturing solution, where we have large batch orders which could run for multiple days or weeks, but we are not finding a way to break up the materials requirements into smaller pieces, rather the default way the system is set up is to tell us to pick the entire orders worth of materials to move to the line. We were expecting the material requirements to be pulled from inventory and transferred to our production lines to be split by the needs of production based on throughput or hours, etc. Our SI is struggling to find a solution and only telling us there is nothing in S4 and any solution would have to be customized. This seems odd since no manufacturer would accept this type of situation.

for planning (MRP) have a look at 'Distribution Key for BOM Component'.
Actual component staging for production is a separate topic with different tools and solutions: Pull List or Kanban or order based staging, etc.. Depends on your chosen approach ( with or without WM/EWM, repetitive (REM) vs. discrete prod. (SFC) vs. process (PP-PI)) and your needs.
