Material Master Question: batch mangement (plant) vs batch management (global)

What exactly is the difference between the two? How is the material if only one is active?

• how is the material effected if only batch management (plant) is active and batch management (global) is inactive?
• inversely - how is the material effected if only batch management (global) is active and batch management (plant) is inactive?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
