Material Master Maintenance

Hi MM Gurus,

I want to ask something related to Material Master Maintenance. Suppose I have a material name laptop. Laptops have different specifications like brand size storage etc. Now how should I maintain these info? Should I open materials with new material code and use them in the material description? Or is there any suitable way?? Need your feedback on what will be the best approach for it?

Specifically related to assets, you would specifically show them as fixed assets in the balance sheet and not inventory. The other way would be to  use material group based account determination

You could post it as expense initially and later on move the same to CWIP or fixed asset based on when you want to capitalize it or book the same into CWIP. Your accounting business owner should be able to help.

Some question you need to consider :

1. Do you need to show report for this with qty ? If yes, maybe you can use batch of serial number and put characteristic with brand, size etc.

2. But I think you will not show this into report. Because you will purchase as asset. So I think you can put specification and detail on asset master. So, 1 material code only.
