Issue with : Perform Maintenance Jobs without assignment functionality

Hi Experts,

While exploring one of client requirement: As ' Supervisor can confirm the work without assigning WO/Operations to his name',

I can came across below node and did configuration accordingly. ( shown in fig 2)

Expectation from system behaviour is : System to allow [Perform Maintenance Jobs app] supervisor to confirm the Job/operations without assigning to his name or allow to confirm the Job even it is assigned to other technician(s)

Observation is, System is not behaving as mentioned above ? Am I missing something here ? 

Any comments or suggestion or alternative solution to client requirement ?

Hi Luis,

This forum / Tag is typically for S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition, so apologies I didn't realise your version was S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition 2022.

Two things to have a look at:

1. There is a SAP note to review that was released on 17.02.2025, this mentions the limitation of not getting the 'Start' / 'Stop' button in the app if you are not assigned to the job 3380151 - F5104A -Action buttons Start/Pause/Resume/workDone/Record are not available in Perform Mai...

2. More recently, I believe the feature you are looking for has been made available on SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition 2023 FPS03. More information in this link: Enhancements for Perform Maintenance Jobs App

I am assuming that the latest help guidance that you were referring to, is based on the 2023 FPS03 version of the app.

Is your company thinking of upgrading in the short term roadmap?

There is a bit of logic that is coded into this app:

• "Quick Confirmation" action only works for the 'assigned technician'.
• Once the original Technician has assigned themselves AND started the Order Operation, then non-assigned technicians can post time confirmations to the operation.
• Those additional time confirmations can't be done by the technicians via the "Quick Confirmation" action, those technicians must drill into the operation and use the Record Time subscreen.

Thanks Tim for your response, In summary Job(s) / operation(s) has to be assigned to individual, without assignment it is not possible to confirm the Job, I also understand other scenario where technician can confirm the Job without assigning to himself for Job which is already assigned to supervisor. Thanks.

Hi Tim, i have indicated the 'Confirm Jobs without Assignment' in Customizing (table V_T350_CONF_CTRL) and i have discovered that 'Start' button is not displayed in the detail of an item (operation page) of the 'Perform Maintenance Jobs' application, when a user without PERNR assigned access to the operation and this operation is not assigned to anybody. This button is only displayed when i access to a operation in which my user is assigned to. As i found out (https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_S4HANA_ON-PREMISE/e72f747389b340229f7fa343975bfa57/3da57072a73444f18b5...), this 'Start' button should be displayed because, as the web page mentioned, "Unassigned maintenance technician: Maintenance work can also be performed by technicians who are not assigned to a job, for example, if they do not have a personnel number.". Unassigned maintenance technician: Maintenance work can also be performed by technicians who are not assigned to a job, for example, if they only perform supporting tasks or do not have a personnel number. As an unassigned maintenance technician, the tasks you can perform depend on the settings that have been defined in the Customizing activity Define Control Parameters for Perform Maintenance Jobs:

1. With the default behavior of the app, you cannot start or finish any jobs or post time confirmations. If you perform supporting activities, an assigned technician is responsible for recording time on your behalf for these activities.
2. If the control parameter Confirm Jobs without Assignment has been selected, you cannot start or finish any jobs, but you can post partial time confirmations for yourself. However, you cannot select the Final Confirmation option for a job.
3. If the control parameter Perform Jobs and Record Time Without Personnel Number has been selected, you can start, pause, finish, and post time confirmations for a job. This option allows technicians without employee master data to perform jobs that are not assigned to another technician. When you post a time confirmation for yourself, you do not need to specify a personnel number. The time confirmation is posted against the work center. If another technician records time for supporting activities on your behalf without specifying a personnel number, the confirmation is posted against the activity type.

You currently have the setting "Confirm Jobs without Assignment" (Option #2 above) which states that you "cannot start or finish any jobs"

You would likely need to change that setting to "Perform Jobs and Record Time Without Personnel Number" (Option #3 above) which does state that you can start and finish jobs.

Hi Tim, thanks for your reply. In my case, we have a SAP S/4HANA 2022 and the setting 'Perform Jobs and Record Time Without Personnel Number' is not avaible (only #1 and #2 are available). I wanted to attached an image but i can´t do it in this comment.

Hello Luis, kindly ask what solution you applied. We do not have SP3 upgrade so need to assign personnel number, but we do not have the HR module active for that. Only solution so far is to use IW41 so not nice. Also 'Confirm Jobs without Assignment' not working too. Thanks and Kind Regards
