Is it possible to increase the length of the WBS Description field in SAP S/4HANA Project System?

Hello SAP Community,

I am currently working with WBS, and I have encountered a limitation that I’m hoping the community can help me address.

The description field for WBS is currently restricted to 40 characters. Our projects often require more detailed descriptions to capture critical information about the tasks or activities represented by each WBS. Unfortunately, the 40-character limit makes this challenging, as we often need to truncate or abbreviate important details, leading to potential misunderstandings or lack of clarity. 

Please note that the filed should appear in Fiori and SAC. 

• Is there any way to increase the character limit for the WBS description field in SAP S/4HANA?
• Alternatively, are there best practices or workarounds that allow for storing more descriptive text for WBS elements?

The best practice for your requirement is to create customer defined attributes, and in S/4HANA this is much easier than it used to be.  It's called In-App Extensibility and allows you to create as many additional attributes as you need.  These additional fields can be seen in standard reporting.

Also, in standard SAP there is the long text option next to the WBS Description.   With long text the sky is the limit for adding as much text as you need, but it doesn't show up in standard reporting.
