Hi,
my client is interested in archiving of HR master data and payroll results. The version used are:
SAP_BASIS 701 SP-Level 0018
SAP_APPL 604 SP-Level 0018
SAP_HR 604 SP-Level 0109
There is only an ABAP stack, we don't have a JAVA stack (if this is relevant).
From my own research I've found that payroll results can be archived in standard, but that for HR master data and to configure retention periods, we would need to activate the ILM Business Function (BC-ILM) in Transaction SFW5.
It would be great if someone could answer the questions below:
1) Is the license required for the ILM business function included in the SAP HCM license?
2) Are there any specific risks associated with the activation of the business function ILM? We don't currently do any archiving or use the transactions, e.g. SARA.
3) Are there any other functions / switches which need to be activated in addition to the ILM switch in SFW5?
4) The client wants to archive into the file system of the SAP system and also delete from there when the retention period is over. In other words, the infotypes to be archived are selected from the SAP system and should also be stored in the filesystem of that very same SAP system. No transfer to an external storage system is planned. Is that possible with ILM business function?
Thank you very much

1. No. ILM license is not required for ILM HCM.
2. No.
3. For your release, only ILM business function.
4. Storage of files into file system is possible using ILM Store. This is available from NW 740 SP13 onwards.
In lower releases, it is only possible to store the data into file system. But retention properties are not applied.
