How to set Planning priority for PM03 work orders

My planners currently use a "In Planning" User Status to identify work orders in the backlog that are a priority to plan. However, we don't have a way to further prioritize that condensed list. What do others do?

Hi Tom,

The most common approach would be to utilise a user-status.

Thanks for the quick reply. We currently use INPL (In Planning) for a user status. For example, If I have 100 work orders in the system and 20 are identified as a priority to plan, those 20 get INPL for a User Status. I'm looking for a way to further refine the priority of those 20.

Could you populate the priority of the work order?

I could. However, I am limited to 4 priorities and in order to change/add, I need global approval from all plants in our system. I don't like our current selection in the Priority field. I am limited to:

This doesn't really provide me the refinement I would like. In theory, if a work order has an A or B priority, it is (should be) already planned. Most of ours fall into the C priority. I need to be able to provide direction for those orders.

Your statements make sense to me.

I think Peter has it right - you could use a user status for this.

Why not have 2 user-statuses:

  • INPL (In Planning)
  • INPP (In Planning Priority)

FYI: A very simple option I've seen used is to place some meaningful characters right at the end of the 40 character short text field.. This option means that you do not need any additional configuration or development..
