How to create a software component in S/4HANA on-premise?

Hi community,

I am reading through ABAP extensibility guide. For tire 1 development, the guide recommends to create our own software component, instead of using "HOME".

I searched for t-codes, Fiori apps and ADT memus for creating a software component, but I could not find one. How can I create a software component in S/4HANA on-premise?

Is there any reason not to use the predefined software components delivered in the system (e.g. ZLOCAL shown here which is configured for cloud-ready development)? Alternatively, what is the advantage of creating your own?

EDIT: Ok, never mind, I guess the fact that those are flagged as local is the problem! 😄

Thanks for the feedback. Just in case the documentation URL moves in the future, the path is:

Home > ABAP_PLATFORM_NEW > Developing on the ABAP Platform > Extensibility > Developer Extensibility > Set Up Developer Extensibility > Create Software Component

It says to start SAP GUI transaction SE38 > run report RSMAINTAIN_SWCOMPONENTS.
