Hi SAP Gurus,
I am new to the HANA world. I am trying to understand the difference between the below items.
1. CDS view
2. HANA view
3. HANA Live view
4. ABAP managed CDS view
5. HANA managed CDS view
I am reading a lot of things about each of these items but I am unable to understand the differences between them. I am also unclear on the strengths of each item and not sure about their use cases.
Please explain or guide me to the right docs. that can help me understand the difference between them.
Background:
I am trying to implement embedded analytics. I see a lot of HANA views and CDS views delivered by SAP. I need to create custom reports but not sure if I should create CDS view and expose it as query/cube to consume in BO tools or to create a HANA view and consume it in BO tools.
Thanks,
Santhana
Hi Santhana,
From a Design Studio perspective, HANA views can be consumed directly as a data source (so no need for BW), whereas it is my understanding that the recommended approach for consuming CDS views is through a BW Transient Provider over which a BEx Query is created.
Here are some discussions about HANA Views vs CDS Views that may be of help from a Design Studio perspective:

Hi Mustafa,
Thanks for sharing your perspective and the links. I have also stumbled upon these links and still couldn't differentiate these items from one another based on their strengths. I think I need to try every one of them and see it for myself.
I am trying multiple options as given below.
1. Create a transient dataprovider through cds view and build a query on top of it through BEx. Now consume this BEx query in design studio. => Success
2. Consume transient query directly in Design Studio => Work in Progress
3. Integration of S4HANA into BW through SDA => Work in progress
I will keep updating my progress here.
Thanks,
Santhana

Hi Santhana,
Thanks for the feedback. Once you have completed evaluating each of the three options you've mentioned, rather than posting your findings as comment here, I think it would be worthwhile to share them in a blog posting. That way it can better serve as an educational reference for community members.
Regards,
Mustafa.
