As 10 different plants are connected to one warehouse, each plant having one GR and GI area. Based on plant we need to determine  GR and GI area for inbound and outbound tasks.

Please advise, what type of storage type needs to be created and what configs need to be maintained to achieve the same.

Dear SAP Community,

Please look at the description of each storage type available to create a template to help with this internal decision:

  • Standard storage
A standard storage type doesn't have any special attributes, as opposed to fixed bin and bulk storage types. The system stores the products in any suitable storage bin. The location of a product in the storage type may change over time as a different product can be stored in a storage bin when it becomes empty. You can't use mixed storage in individual storage bins in the standard storage type.
      You can use handlin
g units (HUs) in the standard storage type. HUs are optional.
  • Fixed bin storage

In a fixed bin storage type, each product is permanently assigned to one or more storage bins and is always stored there. The assignment must be done using the Assign Fixed Bins app. If a storage bin runs out of stock, the product assignment remains. You mustn't use HUs in this storage type. If you create HUs for a fixed bin storage type, the system deletes them during confirmation of warehouse tasks.

  • Bulk storage
A bulk storage type is often used for products that are handled in large quantities and therefore take up a large amount of storage space. The advantages of bulk storage include a reduced need for physical storage bins, fast access to the containers, and a clear structuring of the warehouse into blocks and rows. You can't use mixed storage in individual storage bins in the bulk storage type.
HUs are mandatory in the bulk storage type.
  • General storage
A general storage type has only one storage bin assigned to it, which allows mixed storage. It's designed for a small number of products.
Because the general storage type has only one storage bin, it's not intended for a large number of products. The system doesn't know the exact location of the products in the storage bin and can't support you by finding the products in the storage bin.
You can use HUs in the general storage type. HUs are optional.

Please note:

You can't create or change storage types with the default storage type template. This template is used by SAP Best Practices to create storage types that are needed for certain warehouse processes, such as:

  • Goods receipt
  • Goods issue
  • Clarification
  • Scrapping
  • Production supply

To create it on your end, please make sure to perform the configurations for Master Data: Configuration for Master Data.

Thank you and best regards,

SAP Support.

sorry but the answer is not addressing the question, when i have separate GI and GR area for each plant, when i am doing picking how  to determine the destination GI area for that particular plant. Similarly for GR also.

Hi Sachndev,

In the destination Goods Issue (GI) area for a particular plant during picking, or the Goods Receipt (GR) area, can be determined based on the setup of your warehouse task. The warehouse task contains information about the source and destination storage bins for the goods movement.

When you create a warehouse task for picking, the system determines the source storage bin (where the goods are currently stored) and the destination storage bin (where the goods need to be moved to) based on the warehouse layout and the settings in your warehouse management master data. For each plant, you can define separate storage types for GI and GR areas.

When you create a transfer order for picking, the system will determine the destination GI area based on the storage type and storage bin information in the warehouse task. Similarly, for goods receipt, the system will determine the GR area based on the storage type and storage bin information in the warehouse task.

Please note that the exact determination of GI and GR areas can depend on various factors such as the warehouse structure, the configuration of your storage types and storage bins, and the settings in your warehouse management master data.

Please let us know if you have further questions by here.

Best regards,

Geovana
