Future material cost calculation

Hi everyone,

Based on SAP knowledge based article 2410654 - Error Message: Inventory cost cannot be maintained for future periods, we know that for active materials, it is not allowed to change valuation in future periods.

During October, we will do the material cost calculation for next year. Currently, we are able to update future price list, valuation of Services and resources and overhead but not valuation of material. This is disallowing us to accurately calculate the future value of the material.

Does anyone has any advise how do you calculate future material cost in the system?

You can creat a planned cost for the materials, and then execute Update Inventor Cost run to update all the material's inventory cost with the planned one at the time of validity.

In your case, you can maintain a planned cost valid from next year and execute the update run on Jan.1st 2022 to update the inventory cost with the planned one.

Thanks for the reply. With maintaining the planned cost for next year, can we get the material cost before the execution time based on the planned cost not the current cost? We wanted to know what is the future material cost 2 months before the year.

Hi Chee-Zhen,

You may choose to use the function of Material Cost Estimate to get the material cost calculated based on BoM, or use actual cost to calculate the inventory cost of produced products. All the estimation methods help to get the material cost in the future. With them, you can update furture inventory cost.
