FGI3 versus GRR3

Hello -

Can anyone please tell me the difference between these two transaction codes: FGI3 and GRR3?

I have searched very hard to find this information and I don't see it anywhere.

Thank you,

Emmas

FGI3 is for FI Drill Down reporting where GRR3 is for Report Painter. It depends on what you are trying to create a report for. GL balances for example would likely be better in FGI3 (FGI1 actually) where CO (Cost Center, Internal Order, etc.) reports are typically done in GRR3 (GRR1 actually)

They are different types of reporting tools each typically for their respective area. Both are pretty to create reports with, that is once you have done one.

Hi David -

Thanks for the response!

I have created reports in both transaction.

For example, posting key is not available on the FAGFLEXT table in FGI1 but it is in GRR1.

Also, I tried using a Set in FGI1, but it said "the hierarchy doesn't exist."

But if I go to a GRR1, I can use the exact same set successfully.

Is there anyway to know what the list of differences are?

I just want to feel confident when I tell my client why they have to go to different tcodes to execute reports.

Best Regards and Thank you for your reply.

Hi,it's the different technology of reports. They're using different Source data and have different performance

Hi Alex -

so it makes sense that I can't use 'sets', tcode gs01, with fgi1?

Hi, sorry, I'm not understood your question. Could you elaborate it

Hi Alex -

You can create sets using tcode gs01. Then you can populate them in the report painter reports, using Grr1.

If I try to use sets in FGI3, it doesn't work. It says that they don't exist.

Is this one of the main differences between GRR! and FGI1?

Thanks for all of your help.

Hi.Of course you willn't see it.They are quite different.

It's like comparing SQ01 and GRR1.

OK, thanks. One more point though - there is a place to put in a set in FGI1. If you don't use the sets in GS01, then how do you use that functionality in FGi1?

Hi Emmas

Transaction FGI1 is based on report painter,

whereas GRR3 is basedo on report writer

It is not possible to use sets in report painter reports.
