Hi,
I am configuring e-Recruitment for the first time.
When executing the transaction PFAL, the system is throwing error message "You cannot use message type HRMD_A". How to solve this?

e-rec has nothing to do with pfal unless you have your hr in a separate instance and you run erec in a totally different box altogether.
then if the instances are different pfal does come into 'scope'
in that kind of a scenario you would do well to catch hold of an ale consultant who understands hr and a bit of erec as well.
then let me try and give you a rapid 2 line ale training here in the mean time
1. ale is used to communicate and transfer data between 2 sap systems.
2. basically hr data transfer/replication is done via the tcode pfal
3. the process includes different module specific 'message types' and hrmd_a and hrmd_aba are just a couple of hr-specific message types in ale.
4. these 2 message types are related to pa and om data in general. (not sure if this om data also includes erec or not but cannot think why it shouldnt logically).
5 now these message types themselves will not transfer any data unless you specify the proper 'filters'
6. these filters contain the info about what infotypes and which specific fields within each of them are replicated between which systems.
7. there are quite a few other rules et al but trust me talk to an ale guy first,.. and then before you do that get a very clear picture of what data you wanted replicated,.. down to the field names and any validation conditions involved.
8. a word of caution --> do not use pfal without completely understanding the options in the selection screen completely (functional as well as technical) it could potentially be problematic for you.

the message type of choice for data distribution from HR Core system to an e-recruiting standalone installation is HRMD_ABA.

If you are using e-Recruitment as a standalone system use Trust In relationship methodology ( RFC Connection from BL System (DB) to UI System ) this methodology will enable to use single data based system for HR and standalone e-Recruitment system, with this all the applicant data will be available in HR system and once Recruiter does Data Transfer activity on recruiter portal HR administrator can view the applicant data and the data will be available to Hire a candidate Internal / External Candidates.
PFAL will be useful when HR system and e-Recruitment is not using single database when they are on different systems. And only PFAL can be executed from HR system to e-Rec but not from e-Rec to HR. Need to maintain Distribution model and many exercise has to be done before agreeing the distribution model.
