Hello experts,

We have a discussion about the equipment type for calibration equipment (test equipment). There is a standard equipment type for calibration “Q – Calibration” .

However, we also use equipment type P (Production resource tools). The definition of PRT’s:

  • Production resources/tools (PRTs) are mobile operating facilities used in production or plant maintenance. The R/3 System distinguishes between the following types of production resource/tool on the basis of their attributes and business function:
o Materials considered in materials management, for example, in inventory management, material requirements planning, and procurement
o Equipment such as measuring devices or high-quality tools requiring preventive maintenance
o Documents such as drawings or programs for which document management functions are used
o Other PRTs (with a PRT master record) requiring less maintenance
  • It seems as if euqipment type P is the right one for calibration, as test equipments are measuring devices.

Some people in our organization therefore state it should be equipment type P. Others claim we should use the applicable type Q for Calibration. However, our Test equipment is also used as PRT in our process.

Which solution is the right one? Please advice. Help is much appreciated.
