Difference between Localization as a Self-Service and Configuration through CBC

Dear All

We have copied Germany Best Practices to Bahrain using Localization. Can you please confirm below mentioned queries.

  1. We can perform, Key User Extensibility, Developer Extensibility, Side-by-Side Extensibility without using CLT, Localization Tool Kit whereas SAP Documentation Localization as Self Service also mentioning extensibility as a capability of Localization. How we will differentiate the extensibility performed through Localization or without Localization as SAP does not support changes performed through localization.
  2. If we have to create new document types or extend any configuration by copying standard configuration as we usually do in Rise or On-Prem, will it be considered as Localization or violation of SAP Best Practices.

Dear Adnan,

trying to give answers for the 2 questions which are touching many general points:

  • You can  decide which extension you may create with key user extensibility and with developer extensibility. In addition the document Extend SAP S/4HANA in the cloud and on premise with ABAP based extensions  provides general guidance and typical examples. The side-by-side extensibility based on e.g. BTP provides even more freedom with regards to technical and business capabilities. There is on this requested level currently no automatized solution to differentiate the context of localization for a specific country or region from other processed extensibility steps. In general, multi-off delivery enables the development of ABAP extensions in a SAP S/4HANA Cloud system and with this supports via gCTS to deploy own solutions on other systems. In addition Scalable Solution for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is available which is designed to help partners build differentiating solutions and extensions for customers.
  • Basically, using the Configuration Localization Toolkit for the given approach and with this transforming a source country to your target country and with this adopting / extending the configuration for the given localization needs is the right approach and no violation to the SAP Best Practices. Additionally for this endeavor you may use all available extensibility options mentioned in answer 1.
