Asset Class allows you to group same type or category of assets. For eg. all assets related to Furniture or Fixture are grouped into that class, Assets related to Plant, Machinery and Equip. are grouped into 1 asset class and so forth.

This is from SAP.. "In the FI-AA component, the calculation and posting of depreciation generally takes place at the level of the individual asset. The system is fundamentally conceived so that depreciation is calculated for each main number or sub-number. To meet certain tax reporting requirements (such as ADR in the United States), which require depreciation at a higher level than the individual asset (for example, all assets in a given class in a given vintage year)."

As i understand for Group Assets, Create it using t-code AS21 and you can link multiple individual assets master and link them up into one Group Asset for reporting purpose. You also have to use a separate depreciation area for this. You link multiple asset master record by double clicking it in depreication area and assign here the group asset no. you created.

Hope this helps you out.

plz assign points if helpful.

As you mentioned this point ---"In the FI-AA component, the calculation and posting of depreciation generally takes place at the level of the individual asset. The system is fundamentally conceived so that depreciation is calculated for each main number or sub-number. To meet certain tax reporting requirements (such as ADR in the United States), which require depreciation at a higher level than the individual asset (for example, all assets in a given class in a given vintage year)." Is there way where we can calculate the depreciation in higher level like for say at plant level?

Hi Venkat

Asset Classes - it groups the similar nature of assets. Eg, all furniture into furniture asset class.

Group Assets (this is taken from SAP help)

As a general rule, the system calculates depreciation at the level of individual assets. Certain types of calculation needs or tax requirements (such as in the U.S.A.) make it necessary, however, to calculate depreciation at a higher level. For this purpose, you can group assets in the FI-AA system together into so-called group assets. You can group assets together per depreciation area to form group assets.

thanks

Asset class is grouping of asset and you have option of assigning different account determination to different asset class.

While we use use asset group to just group asset for some reporting pupose.
