DIEN material type in PM order

Hi All,

MM team has recommended to use DIEN material type (Service) for external services in work order (Components Tab) instead of PM02 control key.

Also note that service entry sheet is out of scope, hence not using PM03 control key.

The idea is to use DIEN material as non stock item which would trigger a PR.

When asked for the ones for which master data(DIEN materail) isn't maintained, free text used as a non stock item for services in component section of the work order.

I want to know if that's the right approach for services? and if there's any impact for the same.

I'd appreciate some insight on this.

Thanks

It is not ideal - but it is not bad.

In my opinion, the "right way" of doing services is by using service entry sheets- but if that's out of scope, then this is your second best option.

Here is why I do not like using DIEN services:

  1. You will not be able to execute any approvals at the service entry sheet level. The goods receipts in standard SAP cannot go out for approval.
  2. You will also lose the ability to change your account assignment and tax code when you are processing the goods receipt.

Anyways - what they're proposing will work .. it just won't work as great as a service entry would.

I forgot to mention that if you go the DIEN route, you can't integrate the service entry sheet creations with your preventive maintenance plans.

Hello abilashk05,

Use of DIEN material in PM orders is a standard process, there is no negative impact when you make PR/PO with reference to PM orders.
