Hello all,

Could anyone guide me on wats the purpose and need of a data conversion client?

What is the use of it?

Hi Maxx,

The Purpose of " Data Conversion " is inorder to maintain the Master data (like Material Master, Vendor Master etc) in the Production system (in Live SAP system). Without the data you can Not (SAP User /End user) can not Run any application, for instance in Purchasing: you can not create a applications like PR, PO, GR, etc.

And

the Master data can not be transportable, so that is the reason we have a concept called Data Conversion, in otherway it is also called as Data Migration, and it can be done through LSMW. ( Use the T.Code: LSMW in Command area in SAP system, you will have an idea, simple you follow the steps, it is very easy)

Note: The only thing that you need to do is, you have to create a FLAT file (could be MS Excel file, fill the data in it, and later you can upload when the step comes)

The Data Conversion (can be done for Larger Volume of Master data) can be done from Legacy System to SAP system (i mean the Production System). And you are suppose to call it as a Production system instead of Production Client.

And usually the Data Conversion can be done by Functional Consultants like us SAP MM Consultants, in general, since it is more User friendly Method, to upload or to convert the data from Legacy to SAP system (Production).
