Hi all,
we´ve done an ByDesign implementation on a small subsidiary (20 employees). Everything worked quite well until we came to an issue, i have absoluteley no idea, why SAP ByDesign works in that way.
foreword:
25% of all their stock is in "Quality control". They do a QC inspection for every material after goods receipt. The result in their previus ERP system: They do the quality check based on the Sales Order on request. they struggle to get resources to inspect the goods.
Now we implemented ByDesign and teached them the new Goods inspection process after Goods receipt. They said, they´re unable to check everything directly. This process cannot be changed immediately.
The current system configuration/process
Sales enters sales orders and do a stock check during entering each item. They additionaly open Product Planing Details an verify, whether that product amount is available. After that has been done, they send the sales order confirmation to the customer.
How we handled this "QC blocked stock" after implementation
Every stock in QC has been booked to "Restricted", and stored into the warehouse
Result:
physically available restricted, in medium term unrestricted and ready for sale. But Sales wanted to confirm sales Orders with that current restricted stock -> not possible, because it wasn´t shown as "available stock" in product planning details.
Customers request an sales order confirmation as soon as possible.
3 days ago we decided to switch from "restricted" to "inspection stock"
The amount of products that has been booked to "inspection stock" is shown as "available stock" in product planning details. So we´re able to confirm that sales order and process the customer demand.
We´ve made that decission based on SAP system behaviour shown in the ByDesign Library:

Yes SAP you are correct, but i tell you the problem we are struggeling with:
We´re working with logistic task at Outbound delivery (1 step -> Pick tasks).
- We release customer demand with ATP check -> possible (All the stock is still in Inspection, why is that working?)
- delivery proposal created
a) "Post gooods issue directly" -> we receive an error message, that the quantity cannot be fullfiled -> That´s okay
b) "create warehous requst" --> Possible
Pick task, that will be printed shows no source logistic area id: Our first hint that this stock is in inspection
- Confirm pick task not possible, stock not available.
--> So ByDesign tells you at the end of the whole outbound process, that you´re unable to delivery.
How can we modify the Release of the customer demand in worcenter "Outbound Logistics control", that inspection stock is NOT considered here?
We do a manual stock check before we release customer demands at the moment. This is a real show stopper!

Hi Thomas,
a possible solution could be that the logistc area with the stock under inspection is configured with the logistic use "Not relevant for planning". In this way the stock is transparent for the MRP.
