Create new DME format under Format Tree UMS1 - S4Hana Public Cloud Edition

We have a requirement for the XML output from the Fiori app 'Advance Return for Tax on Sales/Purchases'. As I understand, only the Tree type UMS1 can be used. 

How can I create a new Format tree under UMS1? In the Legacy system, it was very straight forward as you only needed transaction code DMEE. I do not seem to find anything similar in the Public Cloud Edition. 

Please let me know the steps, or if it is not possible, and we should open an SAP note.

You're absolutely right: in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, the classic DMEE transaction used in on-premise systems to create or edit DMEE format trees (such as UMS1) is not available.

This means the process of modifying or creating new format trees like you would in ECC or S/4HANA On-Premise is restricted in the cloud version.

Why you can't create or modify DMEE trees in Public Cloud

In S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition:

• All DMEE trees are delivered by SAP and are not customer-editable.
• The concept of extensibility does not extend to DMEE tree editing.
• SAP controls and maintains these format trees to ensure legal compliance (especially for statutory reports like VAT returns, SAF-T, etc.).

What you can do instead

1. Use the « Map Format Data for Payments » App

You can copy from an existing DMEE format delivered by SAP and enter in the « Edit » mode to create / modify node directly

2. Raise a Feature Request or SAP Incident

If you have a specific requirement for a custom format or minor variation of UMS1, you can:

• Raise a SAP Influence Request for a new format version.
• Open a SAP Support Incident and ask if there's a supported workaround, or if SAP can expose additional BAdIs for your use case.

3. Post-Processing the Output Externally

If your requirement is to:

• Slightly adapt the structure
• Add headers, tags, or adjust fields

…then the most practical solution is to:

• Generate the standard UMS1 XML
• Use middleware (e.g., SAP BTP Integration Suite, CPI) to transform the output externally to your desired format.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your contribution and confirming our case.

The issue is that I cannot find the existing Format Tree 'CZ_EVAT_XML', which is the only one under Tree type 'UMS1'. Therefore, I cannot copy i,t and I found no way to create anything under the Tree type UMS1.

The Fiori 'Map Format Data' does not include the UMS1 tree type at all. Do you know if it would be anywhere else?
