Hi all,

If a GL account is defined as a Balance sheet account, is it normal to get the followin error message during Automatic clearing?

Error KI-217: Cost element x in CO area y does not exist for date X.X.XXXX

What's the solution for this error?

Have you any idea please?

Siwar

Hi

The error could happen due to a wrong set up for automatic creation of cost element when a GL Account is created. Check in the Table TKSA if the GL Account for which you are getting an error is maintained for Cost Element category for combination of Chart of Account and GL Account.

Ideally the balance sheet account should not be maintained for creation of cost element unless you are on New GL and the GL Account in question is an Asset reconcilliation account. In that case only, you can maintain the GL Account as an statistical GL with cost element category 90.

Also check that at the Chart of Account configuration IN Table T004, if you have maintained automatic creation of cost element against the field INTEG_CO

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

Usually, the BS GL accounts are not created as Cost Elements in Controlling.

Hi Siwar,

First clarify us why you require to define cost element for B/S account.

First when are you getting this error? If this BS GL is used for any investment measure settlement in Internal order or WBS element. you have to create a CE cat 90 for this GL.

Cat 90 is a statistical CE and not effect any actual posting.

Hello Siwar,

Are you sure the account as not at first created as P&L account (by mistake) then changed to Balance Sheet ?

You can check that via G/L master record tab "Information C/A"

Are you sure no cost element was ever created for this balance sheet account ? Cost element category 90 can be created for balance sheet account for specific purpose (inclusion of direct capitalization in budget/availability control).
