Cost centers and distribution rules - SAP Business One

Hi, within financials, I have set up cost centers and also a distribution rule  to allocate costs (based on headcount) to a group of cost centers.  When I use this distribution rule on an AP invoice, the related journal only has the distribution rule had against it and does not split the value of the AP Invoice line across the associated cost centers.  

When I try running a P&L report for one of these costs centers, the system does not include the value of the AP invoice apportionment.

How do I get the system to split the cost per cost center?

This is normal system behavior. When using distribution rule, journal entry will not automatically separate postings to all the cost centers. Instead, this process is triggered when you run a report, then the system will check how to distribute each distribution rule and show you the results.

Now, this does not work like that on every report in the system. If you are using distribution rules, P&L is not the best way to get results per cost centers because on P&L report option to choose distribution rule only serves as a filter of journal entries.

Try using  Cost Center Report instead. You can even create your own hierarchical structure using Cost Center Hierarchy.
